Opening of the new exhibition “Turning Points - Light and Stone” by Thomas Lucker

22nd of January 2026

A fascinating exhibition opens the art and culture year 2026 in the Stadtstadel. Thomas Lucker, sculptor from Berlin, personally presented a moving selection of his unique limestone sculptures and photo reliefs at the first vernissage of the year. It was not only the special processing of the stone and the relief-like form of his works that inspired the guests. It is the unique connection between sculpture and photography that makes the figures seem to move and at the same time captures them in the stone. An arc of suspense that he opened up to the participants in a great way. Visibly moved, the audience immersed themselves in the exhibits and everyone found access to Thomas Lucker’s art in a very personal way.

The vernissage was musically enriched by the Syrian oud player and composer Abathar Kmash, who played music from the eastern Mediterranean to Armenia together with Eleanna Pitsikaki and her favourite instrument Qanun and Wilbert Pepper on double bass, both members of his ensemble Ogaro. It was a diversity that was unparalleled and fascinated all listeners. The trio followed the geographical traces on their instruments, on which Thomas Lucker is also at home. In several pieces, Magnus Dauner, the well-known percussion player and drummer, turned the trio into a quartet and accompanied the instruments of the others with a lot of sensitivity. Music and art entered into an enchanting harmony for everyone; all guests agreed on that.
