Who doesn't know them, the French chansons. Since the Middle Ages, French songs have been able to develop steadily before they became a byword in the music world in the 19th century and established themselves as a very special musical genre through many performers worldwide. Nicole Baumann, musical singer, together with Murat Parlak, pianist and composer, presented a large number of well-known chansons by greats such as Michel Legrand, Edith Piaff, Marlene Dietrich, Jaques Prévert, Kurt Weill and Luiz Bonfa in three languages. With her clear soprano voice and her great gestures, Nicole Baumann quickly conquered the hearts of the audience in the Stadtstadel, which was filled to the last seat. She also vividly told the stories of the origin of the songs and the special situation of the singers who performed them for the first time. Murat Parlak complemented the evening program with two brilliant improvisations based on the chanson themes and enveloped the audience in an indescribable variety of sounds. It was an evening entirely in the spirit of all kinds of chansons, the ironic, delicate, realistic, idealistic, lyrical, republican and naturalistic ones. Only there were no boring ones. An emotional and enthusiastic audience said goodbye to the two, Nicole Baumann and Murat Parlak, with a very warm applause.
