There are no landscapes framed in ornamentation or viewed by strange-looking heads, the so-called astronauts. Influenced by a profound engagement with her environment, current issues of the time, and her personal impressions of society and politics, the philosophically inclined artist Christine Krämer translates her thoughts into families of colors on canvas. The focus is on the process of becoming, not on achieving a result of real depiction. Enthusiastic about the ever-present possibilities of reinterpreting her surroundings, such as seeing a landscape in a splash of color, she encounters them from different dimensions. Personal memories, conceptual verification, and a vision emanating from the picture simultaneously find their way into the emerging work during creation. She combines the acceptance of the accidental with a simultaneously conceptual approach. This simultaneity of instinctive feeling and intentional work makes her both player and spectator.
Christine Krämer, born in 1959 in Copenhagen, spent much of her childhood in an international environment, living in India, Denmark, and Germany during this time. After studying art at the Berlin University of the Arts, she received numerous prestigious scholarships and was invited to national and international exhibitions. Today, she lives and works in a village outside of Berlin.
The exhibition is open from Friday to Sunday, between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. You can also arrange personal visits to the exhibition through our contact form on our website. We look forward to your visit!
The house at Illerstraße 15 is one of the oldest houses in the former imperial city of
Kempten. Its history dates back to the 13th century and is closely connected with the
neighboring Mühlberg ensemble. The building, erected by the lord abbot, served to care for
pilgrims, travelers and the needy. Around 1600, a patrician family resided in the three-story
gable-roofed building. Later, the city took over the building and converted it into a municipal
construction depot. Since then, it has been called the Stadtstadel.
At the end of the 20th century, the house was renovated with great attention to detail.
Backfilled cellar rooms were uncovered and an aged pillar as well as an antique millstone
were discovered in the process. Among the special features are Renaissance paintings and
Gothic rafters. After different uses, the Stadtstadel has become a place for contemporary art
and culture since 2021.
After more than thirty years of management experience in strategic marketing and
communications, I decided to devote more time to my interest in art and culture and, with the
acquisition of the Stadtstadel, to give it a permanent space.
I am fascinated by the exploration of different styles in art and the dialogue with artists as
well as visitors. It is an inspiring task for me to present the beautiful things in life holistically
and to make them accessible to those who are interested.
